In 1954 Congress passed the Johnson Amendment (prepared by Lyndon Johnson) which said that non-profits (including churches) could not speak in favor of political candidates. Is this constitutional?

What evangelicals are not told is that if the Johnson amendment is revoked, it would not apply to just evangelical churches but also mosques, which many evangelicals think are promoting ‘ sharia law’ and also ‘ liberal’ Christian churches endorsing and raising campaign funds for their liberal candidates as well.
