Commentary by Bob Fu: The Chinese government has taken a strong ideological turn to create a new cultural direction and President Xi Jinping has really turned against the independent churches and any independent social movements. The government wants to contain the growth of Christianity. With next month’s G20 summit being held in China, the United States should be urged to ask the Chinese government to immediately release Li Heping and other human rights defenders and immediately stop mistreating their family members, including their wives and children.

As I spent time with my family this Christmas and welcomed my daughter and her husband back from a wonderful experience of a year of academic study in China, I could not forget about my Chinese Christian brother, Li Heping.
